How you were positioned in the car, where the car was impacted and whether you bumped your head will all have an impact on how your injuries may present themselves. It is important that you see your health care provider as soon as possible as injuries do not always present themselves right away. Common injuries include:

Whiplash

One of the most common injuries sustained in a car accident. There are different levels of whiplash that can range from mild muscle strain to fractures of the vertebrae. Symptoms include pain and stiffness when moving the neck, muscle tenderness, headaches and decreased range of motion.

Musculoskeletal injuries

Other muscles and ligament can be affected by impact. Mid and low back pain are also common. Injuries to the wrist, shoulder and knee can also occur and present with pain, stiffness or loss of range of motion.

Concussion

A concussion can occur when your head makes contact with something during the accident, though that is not always the case. The force of your head being thrown back and forth can also cause concussion symptoms. Symptoms include dizziness, loss of consiousness, headache, light aversion. If you experience loss of memory, vomiting, concentration issues, severe headaches you should see a doctor right away

Emotional injuries

Getting into an accident can be traumatic. It is common to feel apprehensive or have anxiety at the thought of getting behind the wheel again.
